IT Asset Disposal (ITAD) Services

About

ITAD Services

IT devices and equipment contain toxic substances like lead, mercury, cadmium, polybrominated flame retardants, barium and lithium. If not properly handled, these toxic substances can leach into soil or pollute our air and water supplies. It is thus vital that end-of-life IT equipment be only handled by trusted, professional recycling companies like METech to ensure that there is proper recycling of the IT equipment.

IT equipment usually has memory devices in them that store sensitive and private data. The proper disposal of IT equipment also entails the proper and secure destruction of such data in line with the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA).

“Not disposing of electronic personal data properly is one of the causes of data breaches.”

–  Personal Data Protection Commission

METech’s Data Destruction services adhere closely to the following local and international practices:

National Institute of Science and Technology (NIST), USA

National Security Agency (NSA), USA

Department of Defence (DoD), USA

Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA), Singapore

Singapore Standard SS587 (Management of EOL ICT Equipment)

ISO 27002 (Code of Practice for Information Security Controls)

Customers can opt for any or a combination of the following data destruction methods depending on their in-house security demands:

Data Erasure using Software Overwriting

Overwriting is the process of writing ones and zeros over existing data on a memory device. The memory device is reusable after the overwriting.

Degaussing of Magnetic Memory Devices

Degaussing entails the application of a strong electromagnetic field to a magnetic memory device to remove its magnetically recorded data. The magnetic memory devices are not reusable after degaussing.

Physical Destruction of Magnetic/Solid State Memory Devices

Crushing is the application of a force onto a memory device to damage it physically, thereby destroying its functionality.

Cutting a memory device into small pieces also destroys its functionality.

Shredding cuts a memory device into even smaller pieces to prevent forensic recovery of data.
